Review of Bend Me (Absolution #1)

4 Stars

Break Me picks up right where Bend Me ends. We see Agnes Bright, alias Eliza Stuart agreeing to be David Lake's submissive lover. And with each passing day, Eliza falls. Falls more for David. Allowing herself to feel and to be loved.  She wants more from David, while she cannot give him all of herself. When her world shattered, with the death of her infant son, and with the impending doom of being divorced, Eliza finds herself being untrue to David.

I’m falling in love.
When I’m with him I feel free and vibrant.
It feels safe. It feels right.
It’s a lie.

Not being truthful to David about her own circumstances, coupled with Eliza's own budding insecurities, plays on her emotions and all the secrets she is keeping hidden, with the unknown future on the horizon. Eliza finds herself questioning everything. At this point, as a reader, I felt the tension of the unspoken. Eliza's emotions was intense, while David's own pain was palpable.

As usual, Ms. Scarlet keeps is engrossed with her boisterous and flamboyant secondary characters. I absolutely loved the alternating POV's. Hearing the male perspective in any given story, is always such a plus for me as a reader.

For now, we have to wonder what will happen, will Eliza reveal her secrets on her own, or will they implode everything she has come to know and love, in the small time she has known pleasure, pain and David.
