SYNOPSIS
Some men are just better when they're bold.
Welcome to the Point...
In a dark and broken kingdom, a ruler has to be fearless to control the streets and the ruthless people who run them.
Race Hartman is just bold enough, just smart enough, and just lost enough to wear the crown. Places like the Point will always have bad things and bad people, but the man in control of all that badness can minimize the devastation. Race has a plan, but can he prevent total annihilation without destroying himself?
Brysen Carter has always seen her best friend's brother for what he is--too pretty, too smooth, and way too dangerous to touch. Basking in Race's golden glow is very tempting, but Brysen knows she'd eventually get burned.
When she starts receiving threatening texts and someone tries to take her out in parking lot, the only person interested in keeping her safe is the one man she can't allow herself to have.
Sometimes being bold is the only way to stay alive. But can she let Race save her life . . . if it means losing herself to him?

4 stars
My first ever Jay read was Better When He's Bad. I loved Bax and Dovie so much. Now I'm hooked and I went into Race's story excited and nervously awaiting Jay's reveal.
Privileged Race Hartman walked away from all his wealth on the Hill the day he found out his father put a hit on his half sister. Realizing what the rich would do to hide their mistakes and not risk losing everything, Race turned to The Point. Learning and running the illegal trades, he soon becomes the new King Pin of The Point. Rolling in the gambling, prostitution and other illegal trades, Race knows what The Point offers and he's molding it into everything he can make and gain from it.
Then there's sweet innocent Brysen Carter. A young woman too innocent to be touched by The Point. She's had to give up everything for her family. Leaving behind her college days, Brysen returns home to aid her struggling and downward spiraling family, while trying to raise her sixteen year old sister , maintain a steady job and stay clear of trouble, stay clear of Race Hartman.
Race and Brysen have always had this star struck attraction.
"To keep Race and those traitorous feelings at bay, I was awful to him . . .I mean really, really awful. I was cold. I was disinterested. I was rude, and sometimes I was flat out mean."
Brysen has lusted after Race since forever and Race knows to stay away from the ice-queen that is Brysen Carter. She has always been indifferent to him and acted like he's a villain. Besides, he's never wanted a woman for more than one thing. What can he offer her either way other than a good time. Pain and the uncertainty of The Point?! But his attraction tells him differently and soon one kiss is all it will take to unleash the passion.
"Brysen Carter was a good girl. A pretty blonde from the right side of town, but man, could she kiss like a dirty girl,"
As the plot thickens and danger becomes imminent, we start to see a different side of Race. He protects his own.
“Seems to me that when you add a pretty girl into the mix, that’s when you give a dangerous man something to be dangerous for.”
Race is such a good guy. Even though he has this tough guy persona, and needs to also portray that, he loves those he holds dear. He would do anything to keep them safe. Even if it means drawing blood.
When the troubles of The Point and Brysen's past starts to haunt her, Race and Brysen find themselves struggling to get to the surface. They entrust themselves to each other and hope that it doesn't crush them as they race to the top.
"It isn't always easy. You aren't always easy, but I have yet to regret any of it, Race."
Bax and Dovie will always be my best book so far in this series.I can't wait for Titus's story! Hopefully Jay can give me a new favourite.
