Dirty (Dive Bar #1) by Kylie Scott *ARC REVIEW, NETGALLEY*

Synopsis

The last thing Vaughan Hewson expects to find when he returns to his childhood home is a broken hearted bride in his shower, let alone the drama and chaos that comes with her.

Lydia Green doesn't know whether to burn down the church or sit and cry in a corner. Discovering the love of your life is having an affair on your wedding day is bad enough. Finding out it's with his best man is another thing all together. She narrowly escapes tying the knot and meets Vaughan only hours later.

Vaughan is the exact opposite of the picture perfect, respected businessman she thought she'd marry. This former musician-turned-bartender is rough around the edges and unsettled. But she already tried Mr. Right and discovered he's all wrong-maybe it's time to give Mr. Right Now a chance.

After all, what's wrong with getting dirty?

4 'Crazy' Stars

Dirty is one of those books, which engages you from the get go. It's a slow building inferno, with hysterically sarcastic and intriguing characters, that had me rolling with laughter, quirking my eyebrow and even WTF! moments. The realistic story telling kept me on the edge of my seat and bubbling for more at the ending.

Our heroin Lydia has played the Runaway Bride as Julia Roberts did in Pretty Woman. Only she wasn't a scared bride, she was more of jilted lover. Abandoned not on her wedding day but from the start of her relationship with her soon to be husband. Now on the supposedly happiest day of her life, her wedding day. Lydia's unnerving relationship becomes clear. An intense and intimate video reveals lies, betrayal, and a secondary life; unbeknownst to Lydia.

Decidedly making a run for it. Lydia escapes the altar, with her wedding dress hiked up and climbs a fence that no woman in a dress should ever be found climbing. All in her plight to escape. In a bath tub, in an old house, with a cranky neighbour, Vaughan; Lydia finds herself.

“Things as I knew them were just props. My happiness needed to come from me.I could build my own home, make a future for myself. Not rely on someone else to come along and magically make me feel like I had worth,as if I belonged.I could be strong on my own.”

Vaughan is a musician trying to make it big. Recently home on vacation, to his bewilderment, and in a most compromising position, he discovers Lydia in his bathtub.

“Damn, he was hot. The kind of hot that only got better with age and experience.”

From this point the story really takes off, and we see the interaction between Lydia and Vaughan. I loved Vaughan's take no bullshit answers and his lack of pity POV. His cynical demeanor gave way to Lydia's strength and I saw her flourish under Vaughan's guidance or rather lack thereof.

“Life is hard. Terrible things happen. We all have feelings. We're all just flesh and blood, trying to do our best.”

Dirty is a most apt name for this story. It was so raw, open and realistic, dirty and to the point. A well written and engaging tale. When one door closes, a window opens.

Counsellor (Acquisition #1) by Celia Aaron * ARC Review, NetGalley*

SYNOPSIS

In the heart of Louisiana, the most powerful people in the South live behind elegant gates, mossy trees, and pleasant masks. Once every ten years, the pretense falls away and a tournament is held to determine who will rule them. The Acquisition is a crucible for the Southern nobility, a love letter written to a time when barbarism was enshrined as law.

Now, Sinclair Vinemont is in the running to claim the prize. There is only one way to win, and he has the key to do it — Stella Rousseau, his Acquisition. To save her father, Stella has agreed to become Sinclair's slave for one year. Though she is at the mercy of the cold, treacherous Vinemont, Stella will not go willingly into darkness.

As Sinclair and Stella battle against each other and the clock, only one thing is certain: The Acquisition always ends in blood.

Full disclosure: This book is a dark romance with elements of slavery, violence, BDSM, and super-hot sex. It is the first of a series and ends on a cliffhanger. If you're good with these caveats, enjoy.

Hi, I'm Celia. Nice to meet you. Can you keep a secret?

I write smut. Gritty, dirty, delicious smut. This is a secret we can share. I'll do the writing. You do the reading. We have to keep our relationship quiet because I have a highly respectable day job, mostly involving putting bad boys behind bars. At night, I let the bad boys play a bit in my imagination, as you will see.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy my stories. And remember, it's our secret.

Sinclair Vinemont, our anti-hero, belongs to an old and long line of aristocratic ancestry. An ancestry so old, they belong to the most affluent and prestigious, and they govern themselves via a Sovereign. Sinclair a lawyer by day, and at night when the mask comes off, their is only darkness, their is only a Vinemont.

As the eldest Vinemont, and as per traditions, it is Sinclair's duty to participate and fulfil the role within the Acquisition. This is where our forlorn heroine comes into play. Stella Rousseau, is acquired in a one year contract, in order to aid her father's escape from life imprisonment.  Sinclair is her only hope, but soon, we will see that he becomes her worst enemy.

Preparations for the Acquisition Trials become a mass of emotional and physical torture for Stellar. She soon discovers the true nature of Sinclair Vinemont. And his darkness and the lines of tradition supersedes any and all feelings he has for Stellar.

In trying to play the game, for her own salvation, her main mission to lure Vinemont into caring for her, thus seeking her own self preservation, but instead... She became enamoured with him. Now, her heart was the one caught in a trap.

This story captured me from the start. The masterful display of savagery and the intimacy of want, all warring together, in an intense and sadistic story of ancestral brutality among the elitist.

Review of  Becoming Rain (Burying Water #2)
Review of  Chasing River (Burying Water, #3)

Surviving Ice is a suspense ridden tale which engrosses the reader, while captivating them with a titillating and slow building romance between our main characters.

Ivy is a drifter. Never staying in one place long enough to form attachments or put down roots. Currently residing in San Francisco, working at her uncle's tattoo shop. Ivy finds herself unsettled after her uncle's brutal murder, of which she was a witness to. When her flight instincts kick in, she becomes perturbed, because she must settle his affairs before taking off.

"Ice is beautiful and enticing; cold and hard and uncompromising."

I loved the way K.A. Tucker portrayed Ivy. Despite being a tough nut to crack, Ivy's vulnerabilities shone throughout the story and her personality was something to be admired. She was independent and strong willed, fierce and seriously intense. Yet, surrounding her tough exterior, she was a soft hearted person, looking for a home. Somewhere to call her own, someone to cherish and simply WANT her.

"Who are you, really Sebastian? Besides the stranger who strolled in and seized my heart?"

Sebastian is a former Navy Seal. After an "other than honourable" discharge from the military, he has found success working in private security for an old military friend and mentor. When he receives the call to return to his home state of California for a special mission, he returns home to work a job that will be the catalyst for changing his life forever.

“She’s lethal but sexy, quiet but strong.”

Ivy became his mission, and in the end they built a friendship and a desire so intense that Sebastian's mission changed, and Ivy became his everything.

Truths will be revealed, old friendships destroyed and loyalties will be questioned. Family ties will become stronger and love will prevail. These two, Ivy and Sebastian, were/are the perfect pair. They made my heart soar, gave me goosebumps, and ultimately made me understand that even the toughest of persons, always need love. Never judge a book by it's cover. Ya know what I mean lol.

K.A. Tucker you outdid yourself. You hooked me from my first meeting with Ivy. I love these tough women. So vibrant and full of energy. Thank you for letting me experience Ivy.

3.5 Stars

Fake Boobs, told in dual POV's, takes us on a journey of self-hate, with eighteen year old Tori Albert. Naturally, Tori has the build of a slender boy. She is also lacking one prominent aspect of being female, boobs! She is flat chested and because of Tori's boyish looks; her feelings of loneliness, peer pressure, and lack of parental support.  Further compounded by listening to her brother's friends, and all their commentary about women's looks. She firmly believes, that to be noticed by the opposite sex, Tori must fall into the stereotypical 'bombshell' category. With this impression branded and deeply seated within her, Tori's insecurities and her lack of life experience, has brought her to the brink of trouble on a few occasions.

Her saving grace comes in the form of Grant. Her brother's best friend. Grant is the good guy. The All American sweetheart. After saving Tori from some unsavory situations, Grants starts to spend time with Tori, before they both head out to college. Spending time together, Tori and Grant's friendliness soon turns into attraction. One that Grant is reluctant to start, because of Tori being his best bud's sister. Apparently, there is some unspoken code, against falling for your friend's sister.

Fast forward a couple months. Both Grant and Tori are now returning home for the Christmas break. Their farewell was bittersweet, and even if Grant doesn't want to admit it, he has feelings for Tori and can't wait to see her. This is where I applaud Tori, I was so surprised that she challenged Grant. More so, for herself, and her feelings, rather than what was expected or the 'norm.' She has become so obsessed with being 'ugly' and what other people think. So of course I was shocked.

It was finally happening. I was being kissed, and not by just anyone, but by Grant. Someone I had genuine feelings for. I never wanted the moment to end. His kiss melted away all the bad feelings I had about myself. It was as if every bad moment I'd ever experienced was in order to make this moment so perfect.

We didn't even come up for air. I didn't need air. Grant was my air.

Now, my heart really broke at this point. As the Christmas break is spent with family and loved ones. Grant and Tori take their friendship to the next level. Grant becomes Tori's first sexual encounter and first love. But as the holidays progress, and so does Tori and Grant's 'relationship', it soon becomes clear, that something 'BIG' is about to happen. Something, life changing.

Grant suddenly breaks it off with Tori. Claiming she is too young, and lacking life experience. Firmly believing that if they both were older, things would or could be different. Shattered! Distraught! Angry! Tori recedes into her former self. The one pre-Grant. Firmly believing that she was unwanted and unlovable, because of her looks.

As the story progresses, Tori decides to get the attraction she believes she wants. Physically, she became what she thinks every guy wants. Blond, blue-eyed bombshell with a D rack, and some serious back pains to prove it. But soon Tori realizes that the attention she once sort after, isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Throughout the years, Tori has always remembered Grant. His tender touches, the way his words made her feel appreciated and unique. The confidence she gained when she was with him Yet, it wasn't enough. Keeping a memento of Grant, a silver charm bracelet with a single cluster of pink hearts charm. A reminder not to ever be vulnerable again.

Tori always imagined meeting Grant again. But this time, she wanted him to fall head over heels for her and her new look. But when they finally met up, she felt rejected again. Twice by the same guy. This new Tori, was just a mask. She wasn't the Tori he knew and fell in love with.

This is where we're given some insight into Grant's thoughts and his reasons for breaking it off with Tori. Grant really proved to be such a selfless sweetheart. His reasons were admirable. It wasn't executed properly, but then, we wouldn't have any drama.

A serious theme within the confines of Fake Boobs. The author tried to make the story lighter by focusing on only the boobs aspect. I felt that Tori herself, was mostly unhappy She seemed to have reached a point in her life, where she thought, her experience would have been significant, especially as she was heading off to college. Mostly, it was the stigma, that affected her, I believe. Not so much peer pressure, or hearing men.. boys talk.  She didn't know how to be girly. And without a doubt, she had no role models and no one to draw strength from.

"Nothing in my life has ever felt right until you."

~~EXCERPT~~
Beyond-the-Seduction-3D-Paperback
“Shae?” he called out, but his words got lost in the music as he descended the stairs. He didn’t say her name again, because the moment he saw her he was transfixed.

Shae was dancing.

She’d pushed the couch against the far wall, leaving space in the center of the room to move. Instead of yesterday’s clothes, she now wore a pair of tight black shorts and a loose gray tank. Her feet were bare. They hit the floor with a small slap.
Being careful not to disturb her, Trace lowered himself and sat on a stair, still watching her every movement. He doubted she’d hear him even if he did make a noise. Shae was locked in her moment, oblivious to the world around her.

The music was haunting, conveying her sad-ness, and as she pirouetted, he saw it on her face, too. Shae was crying. He expected it, though the fact that she was doing it while dancing made it harder for him to see. Dancing had bonded Lisbeth and Shae, and now it was all she had left of that. Trace couldn’t bring himself to disturb her.

Her arms swirled, her body swayed, each movement graceful and smooth. She covered the floor in three quick steps, followed by a deli-cate jump. It amazed him that she kept her poise during the leap, enough to point her toes. When she repeated the move, he watched her fingers this time, and smiled when she pointed those.

3 Intensity Stars

This story starts us off with Trace Jacks receiving some bad news, that changes the course of his life forever. News that burn him to the core and breaks his happy life. On the flip side we're given Shae Bennett. A lovely ballerina attempting to keep it all together. Operating a ballet studio while her mother recovers from surgery, Shae is more than happy to take on the responsibility that the studio hands her daily. Teaching classes for little ballerinas, Shae and Trace meet when he drops his niece off for her first class. All Trace's anger over his current situation goes to the wind when he meets Shae. She seems to amuse him, and keep his troubles away. For Shae, there is an instant intensity when she looks into Trace's eyes. It's as if she can see into his soul.

Trace is the lead guitarist for the band, Wasting Light. On a girls' night out, Shae and Trace bounce up and a little sexy luster scene is given. It was cutesy and hot at the same time. I became a little perturbed because Trace never came off as the player, man-whore type he was portrayed as. To me he just seemed to be a sweet boy with the bad boy facade.

Trace and Shae decide to quell the intensity and lust that swirls around them both. One night, no strings attached. Trace is very clear that he isn't looking for more than a  sexual, get lost in the moment type of relationship. And  Shea is more than happy to oblige. She has her own problems she is trying to run from. A sick mother, a mortgage for both her house and the dance studio, and lastly a sperm donor of a father that just puts the final nail in their (her mother and herself) coffin.

As they story progresses, Trace battles with the unveiled secret that continues to emotional tear him apart, while Shae gets more and more bad news concerning her mother's health. They use each other as their own forms of escapism. Trace seems to always be around when "the shit hits the fan" with Shae, she opens up to him, but he isn't quite as willing to reveal his inner demons to Shae. The pain is too much and he feels that if he reveals his demons, he will become even more vulnerable and it will make the truth a reality.

M.A. Stacie gives us differing people, that collide in dance, they teach and learn from the other. A soft ballerina and a bad boy musician. Each gaining strength and learning to persevere with the support of the other. Sometimes, all its takes is one step. This was a really sweet and endearing novel, and I do hope that Shae and Trace get their happy ending. My most awe-inspiring moment in this book, was when Shae grew some balls and stood up to her father. The fact that M.A. Stacie used real life situations, made the dynamics in the book more appealing.

Excerpt
Ignoring him, I settled back on my stool and surveyed the room. We sat in Becca’s section, and what I saw wasn’t making me happy. I knew she was a good waitress, but she’d just started here and it showed. Not only had she fucked up several orders, she didn’t quite seem to get the rhythm of the bar. That wasn’t my problem, though.
My problem was that despite these fuckups, nobody seemed to mind. I had a nasty suspicion this was due to her perky tits, friendly smile, and tight little ass that seriously just needed a bite taken right out of it.
She really, really needed to get a new job—every man in the place wanted her. Including me. Especially me. I hated them. All of them. I shifted uncomfortably, because just like every time I shared a room with her, my pants had gotten tight.
Torture. Becca was just so fucking fine on every level, and not just her looks. There was something about the way she carried herself . . . I couldn’t put my finger on it. Like she was dancing through life to some song nobody else could hear. Never met another woman like her—she wasn’t just sexy, she was a survivor and I admired that.
She’d grown up so much since the first time I’d met her. Bigger boobs, a nice fullness to her ass that was nowhere close to fat but would be perfect to hold tight while I fucked her. Her lips had plumped, too, and over the years she’d gained a sparkle in her eyes that turned her from pretty to 100 percent spectacular.
Not to mention how she’d tasted.
Nearly blew in my pants when I’d taken that mouth. Just the memory got me hard. Make that harder. Fucking basket case.
When I’d pulled up to find her sitting outside with Collins, a thousand murder scenarios ran through my mind. And yeah, I know I covered that already, but if anything ever deserved empha- sis, this was it. Collins needed to die. I didn’t care how nice he was. After that I’d throw Becca on the back of my bike and make a run for the hills . . .
Okay, so there were a few problems with the plan, the top one being she hated me. Or she should—I’d certainly given her cause. Boonie nudged me.
“Did I mention you’re pathetic? You want her, take her. Other- wise let it go because you’re an embarrassment to all men in general and to the Silver Bastards in particular.”

Finally being released from jail, after a fourteen month incarceration, Puck Redhouse is looking forward to his freedom and a woman between his legs. In celebration of his release, his club is throwing a party. Being on the inside, all Puck had was his hands and his imagination. But what he really wanted was a supple female to ease away all his stress and give him the long awaited release he has been craving. Seeing Becca for the first time, he knows she, is who he wants. After a night with Becca, things start to heat up. He soon realizes that Becca is a pawn used by her step-father to obtain any end-result he needs. Her mother is a junkie, and can't even be called a mother. She sits ideally by and allows sixteen year old Becca to be physically passed around among and between the club brothers and outsiders. Puck ends up saving Becca from her sordid lifestyle, not by choice, and takes her home with him to Idaho.

I'm not your friend, Becca.
I've never been your friend and I never will be.

I can be the man that fucks you and owns you,
or
I can be the man who keeps an eye on you..."

Five years later, Puck and Becca have rarely seen each other and interacted. In those years, Becca has continued to be great full for the life Puck gave her. Even though Puck saved her from the atrocities of her MC and step father, she is still fearful of him. He is dark, rough and hard, with a persona of steel. But, Becca couldn't stop thinking about him.

Becca is all grown up. As a teenager she was stunning,  but as a young woman, she is drop dead gorgeous. Getting her life on track, Becca has finished her academics and has enrolled in Beauty School. She wants to be more than what her mother turned out to be. Becca has grown up seeing her mother make mistake after terrible mistake. Her aim in life is to survive, work hard, keep her head down, and without a doubt, NEVER turn out like her mother. Becca made decisions based her past and the mistakes of her mother. Wanting to stay clear of trouble.

Everyday for the last five years I asked myself the same question
– what would my mom do? –
Then I’d do the opposite.

Growing up around and within a motorcycle club, Becca knows the dangerous things that go on. She's more than aware of the lifestyle and the demands it makes on each member. Puck's association to an MC, surfaces memories of her past life, and it's difficult for Becca to succumb to her attraction to him.

Puck has kept his distance for the last five years, only checking in on her ever so often. Always keeping his attraction and his delicious thoughts and imaginations of Becca to himself. As the plot thickens and Pucks past taunts him, he throws caution to the wind and finally decides that Becca is worth the trouble.

“We’ve been in a relationship for five years now,” Puck said, his voice hard. “It wasn’t normal, it wasn’t exclusive . . . Hell, I don’t know what the fuck it was, but we both know that’s the truth. Whatever’s between us, it’s been there since the first night we met.”

"Let's clear things up," he said, his tone catching me off guard.

"This isn't a onetime thing. I'm claiming you, Becca. Already talked to the club about it - they know you're mine. That's how it works in my world. End of story."

I always love a story that starts off rocky and isn't a walk in the park. All the complications involved just creates greater intensities and the alpha-male exhibitions, are to die for. I love the way Puck just made demands or rather statements and then he carried out his intentions. Never asking just doing. It gave me the chills.

I don't say sweet things and make love and all that bullshit.
I like sex hard and rough, no holding back.
